Holton New Proportion Cornet Outfit
This instrument was built in 1914, at the height of Holton craftsmanship. Included are the original case, original mouthpiece, and extra slides allowing playing in C, Bb or A.
Despite noticeable valve wear and minimal compression this fine cornet is playable. There are signs of prior dent removal, mainly in the bell crook, taper and flare, but no significant dents now. No significant dents remain. The satin silver plate finish is about 95% intact. It appears that the two braces from the valve casings to the bell are not original and that the plating was touched up in that area. I am no cornetist, but have a little trouble getting the first valve notes up to pitch with the shortest slide in use. It looks like a previous owner had custom spacers made to keep some slides in the preferred position. These could be removed by your favorite repair shop.
